Strike updates: Support us on social media + some Q&As
The time for unity—and sharing online!
Dear members: It is day two of the staff walkout. We hope you have been able to join colleagues at one of the picketing stations at the main Lynnmour (North Van), Shipyards (Lonsdale), or kálax-ay (Sechelt) campus.
We would love your help in spreading the word about the MoveUP strike and our support of their cause. Please take photos & videos! Then, share with the CFA and help spread the word on Social media:
Twitter: @CapUFaculty, @MoveUPTogether, @CapilanoU, @bcfed, @CanadianLabour
Facebook: CapUFaculty, MoveUPTogether
Suggested Hashtags: #CapU, #bclab, #NorthVan
Our goal is to create a lasting record of this show of unity between faculty and our staff colleagues. Please take as many photos and videos as you can and share them all with the CFA.
FAQ updates
For those who attended the special general meeting yesterday, thank you for your questions and feedback. We are working on updates to our FAQ document to include your comments and new questions as they come in.
If you have questions specific to your situation, the FAQ document lists who to contact within the CFA. If you’re not sure who to contact with your concerns, you can use our general mailbox: cfa@capilanou.ca. One of our team will respond as soon as we can.
This strike is not just about staff–it is about all of us!
As you know, the CFA continues to negotiate for a new collective agreement. Although the administration has withdrawn its proposals to delete the collegial model and remove or limit your rights to union support, we are at a critical point in negotiations. The monetary proposals are on the table (e.g., updates to benefits, equitable pay for non-regular faculty, research funding). The employer has not yet responded to our latest monetary proposal and is refusing to provide adequate data for us to assess costs.
This is the time for unity and strength, not just to support a fair agreement for MoveUP, but for a fair agreement for faculty.
We would like to emphasize again that striking is always a last resort. The right to withdraw our work when negotiations break down is the basis of our bargaining power. Without it–without solidarity–we would be in a much weaker position with the CFA’s ongoing negotiations with the university administration.
Thank you for your continued support.
In solidarity,
Job Action Committee
