Please support MoveUp in their JOB ACTION

MoveUP, the union of our staff colleagues at CapU, has given notice of strike action, effective at 1:25 p.m. on Monday, 15 May (see bulletin). They were left with no choice, due to the employer’s stance at the table.

MoveUP’s job actions are limited to an overtime ban, for now. We as faculty don’t need to change anything about our work at this point.

Right now all that is being asked is a show of solidarity. Watch for updates on specific actions that MoveUP will ask us to take in support. This may include refusing to cross a picket line.

The CFA and MoveUP have a long history of supporting one another’s job action. When we went on strike in 2015, MoveUP members were with us when we eventually started picketing. That was pivotal in keeping that strike short.

Let’s do the same for our MoveUP colleagues.

Strong support from our union will help MoveUP resolve the impasse in bargaining. A demonstration of solidarity will also strengthen our position in bargaining, this round and in the future.

None of us, including MoveUP, wants this to affect the education of our students. Strong support is the best way to prevent a disruption.

See the MoveUP strike notice bulletin here, and watch this site for further bulletins:  https://moveuptogether.ca/workplace/capilano-university/

Together we—faculty and staff—make Capilano a great place to work! Let’s join with our MoveUP colleagues to support the health and well-being of employees.

We have power in unity. We need to stand together.

 In solidarity,

CFA executive committee
